Previously, Ali worked as a lawyer in the private sector and as a civil servant at the provincial and federal levels. His extensive professional experience gives him the knowledge to get things done in government.
He is a graduate of the University of Toronto (B.A.), attended the London School of Economics (M.SC.) and received degrees from Osgoode Hall Law School (LL.B) and Georgetown University in Washington, DC (LL.M).
As a resident of Willowdale, Ali has been a strong advocate for increased federal support for our local infrastructure needs. These investments would not only reduce many of our local challenges, but also create conditions for future economic growth. Additionally, Ali has advocated for gun control, the 401 ramp revitalization, Canada Child Benefit funding in Willowdale, online hate speech legislation, indigenous rights and awareness, provincial cuts to legal aid, and housing affordability.
Ali previously served as a Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry (Innovation and Industry). He currently serves as Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee and is a member of the subcommittee on International Human Rights.
